Edwin Penny was born in Bristol in 1931. He studied at Bath College of Art and the Royal West of England Academy. During National Service he was posted to Hong Kong where he found time to study Chinese painting techniques and was one of the few Europeans to exhibit in local exhibitions. He returned to England and began exhibiting wildlife subjects, which blended the restrained ideals of Eastern painting with traditional Western ideas. He held a numerous solo exhibitions with Frost and Reed in London, who were his sole agents.

In good overall condition, there are a few spots of foxing, the frame has some general wear including a few scrapes.
