James Downie was born in Manchester in 1949. He worked in the building industry until 1989 at which point he began painting full time. Downie now lives in Cornwall where he paints from his studio. James Downie's work has been influenced by L S Lowry and this can be seen in some of his northern scenes. His subject matter varies greatly from pub scenes to rural Cornish landscapes. Downie has an ever increasing number of collectors who appreciate his appealing, quirky and imaginative works of art.
